Pipestem to Begin Charging User Fee

The Department of Natural Resources has announced that seven state parks, including Pipestem State Park here in Summers County, will begin charging a day use fee for those visiting the park.  A fee of $2 per car will begin Memorial Day Weekend.  Users may also opt for a $12 pass which will grant year long access to all state parks.Pipestem

Presently, the fees are part of a pilot program, but it is expected that the fees will eventually be charged in the remaining 38 state parks in West Virginia.  The nearby state parks of Babcock and Little Beaver will also be charging this new user fee.

Bobcats Compete at Local Track Meet

The Summers County Bobcats competed recently in the Greenbrier East Invitational track meet in Greenbrier County.

TrackThe Bobcats’ boys team finished No. 5 overall out of twelve teams; doing well against schools from the Class AAA and AA classifications. The girls team finished No.10 overall on the day.

List of other schools that competed in the Greenbrier East Invitational:
Pocahontas County, Summers County, Princeton, Bluefield, Allegheny, Va., Midland Trail, Greenbrier West, Greenbrier East, Independence, Covington, Va. , and PikeView.

Lady Bobcats Fall to Midland Trail

The Lady Bobcats fall to the Lady Patriots of Midland Trail on Friday evening 11-2.

bobcatMidland Trail has played well this season and Summers County couldn’t derail them on this evening.  Tiffani Cline was 1 for 3 for the Lady Bobcats in the loss.

The weather hasn’t fully cooperated in recent days, so both the the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats will have some make up games in the future.

Lady Bobcats Run Over Princeton

The Lady Bobcats crush the Lady Tigers of Princeton 15-3 on Wednesday evening, cruising by their Class AAA opponent.

scsoftballWhitney Justice had a big day with a homer, triple, and three RBI’s on the evening. The Lady Bobcats overall played well and put away Princeton with ease.

Bobcats Fall to Duo of Virginia Teams

The Summers County Bobcats drop a couple of games this week playing in the Coppinger Tournament, losing both to schools from neighboring Virginia.

286fe-scGraham,Va. (Bluefield,Va.) defeated the Bobcats 6-4 earlier in the week as the Bobcats played well and nearly upset the G-Men at Bowen Field which is also the home of the Bluefield Blue Jays of the Appalachian League.

The Bobcats again where in the game till the end, but fell to Tazewell,Va. 9-7 on Wednesday evening as they are still competing in the Coppinger Tournament.

Bobcats Sweep Renegades

The Summers County Bobcats swept  the Westside Renegades winning Game One 10-0 and Game Two 14-0 in dominating fashion. Ashton Bennett threw a one hitter in the second game and Will Whittaker and Sam Wykle both went 3 for 4 and combined for seven RBI’s.sc

In Game One of the day the Bobcats’ pitcher Chase Adkins only allowed two hits in the 10-0 shutout win.  C.J.Shrewsbury was 4 for 4 from the plate in the game.

Summers County improved to (8-8) overall.

Lady Bobcats have Rough Evening in Richwood

The Lady Bobcats traveled to Nicholas County and fell to the Lady Lumberjacks of Richwood 8-0.

The Lady Bobcats only had two hits all game long, as Richwood pitching was too much on this evening. Tiffani Cline and Marcella Auguilar had the only hits for Summers County.

286fe-scRichwood scored a run in each of the game’s first two innings and didn’t look back, as they would later add six more runs to end any hope of a Summers County comeback.
